Epoxy Resin:
Most common Epoxy Resin are produced from a reaction between Epichlorohydrin (ECH) and
bisPhenol-A (BPA), though the latter may be replaced by other raw materials
(such as Aliphatic glycols, Phenol and o-cresol novolacs) to produce specialty Resin.
The Epoxy Resin can be obtained in either liquid or solid states:
The two processes are similar. Firstly ECH and BPA are charged into a reactor.
A solution of 20-40% caustic soda is added to the reaction vessel as the solution
is brought to the boiling point.
Solvent is removed by vacuum distillation:
After the evaporation of unreacted ECH, the two phases are separated by adding an inert
solvent such as methylisobutylketone (MIBK). The Resin is then washed with water and
the solvent is removed by vacuum distillation.The producers will add the specific
additivesto create a formula that lend special properties such as flexibility,
viscosity, color, Adhesiveness, and fastercuring, depending on a particular application.
Convert Epoxy Resin into a hard:
In order to convert Epoxy Resin into a hard, infusible, and rigid material,
it is necessary to cure the Resin with hardener. Epoxy Resin can cure at practically
any temperature from 5-150oC depending on the choice of curing agent. Primary
and secondary amines are widely used to cure Epoxy Resin.

Epoxy Resin are used in the manufacture of Adhesives, plastics, paints,
coatings, primers and sealers, flooring and other products and materials
that are used in building and construction applications.

Epoxy is generally more expensive than Resin, due to its strength and formulation
requirements. Resin is more popular for craft and jewelry making,due to its
lower cost. Remember, however, that you get what you pay for. Epoxy is very
moisture resistant, and certain formulations can even be applied underwater.
What's the difference between Resin and Epoxy:
The main difference between both Adhesive types is the drying time. Both Epoxy
and Resin Adhesives require mixing before use, but Epoxy hardens much faster
than Resin glue. Resin glues take longer to cure, about 8-10 hours, while
Epoxy Adhesive only takes about 6-30 minutes.
Is Epoxy waterproof:
One of the many great properties of Epoxy Resin – aside from the Adhesion
and filling attributes – is its ability to seal and form a waterproof
(and anti-corrosive) layer of protection.
Can Resin give you cancer:
Polyester Resin. This synthetic material, however, is highly Toxic, causing burns,
allergic reactions, and serious irritation of the eyes and skin through even
brief contact, with the potential for more serious conditions up to and including
cancer rising with increased exposure.

Most symptoms from the inhalation of Epoxy involve inflammation and therefore

An Epoxy primer is a Resin-based sealer that forms a non-porous Surface once
it cures. And although the Surface is very hard, you can sand it with a sanding
machine to create a very smooth Surface that's easy to paint.
How does Epoxy Resin cure:
Mixing Epoxy Resin and hardener begins a chemical reaction that transforms
the combined liquid ingredients to a solid. The time it takes for this chemical
transformation from liquid to solid is called cure time. As it cures, the
Epoxy passes from the liquid state, through a Gel state, before it
reaches a solid state.
What temperature does Epoxy Resin cure:
We know that most epoxies perform well or, at least reach a higher percentage
of their potential physical properties, at Temperatures of 60°F and above. Some
Resin/hardener combinations are formulated to cure in Temperatures as low as 35°F.
Is sanding Epoxy dangerous:
Serious health problems can result from sanding Epoxy before it is fully cured.
When you inhale these dust particles, they become trapped in the mucous lining
of your respiratory system. The reactive material can cause severe respiratory
irritation and/or respiratory allergies.
Does Epoxy Resin biodegrade:
Epoxy Resin have a wide range of applications, including in corrosion protection
of metals, electronics, structural Adhesives, and composites. The consumption of
Epoxy Resin is predicted to keep growing in the coming years. Thermoset Resin
cannot be recycled, and are typically not biodegradable.
Is Resin a liquid:
Resin, any natural or synthetic organic compound consisting of a noncrystalline
or viscous liquid substance. Natural Resin are typically fusible and flammable
organic substances that are transparent or translucent and are yellowish
to brown in colour.
What is bio Resin made of:
A bio-Resin is a Resin that derives some or all of its constituent monomers
from biological sources. Today's sources are plant-based, usually corn or
soybean by-products from bio-diesel fuel refinement. Other candidates include
sugar cane, sugar beets, potatoes, lignocellulose, whey and algae.
How long can you store Epoxy Resin:
3 years. Epoxy Resin and hardener formulations have a long shelf life compared
to many polymers. The minimum shelf life for the standard INF and LAM products
is 3 years for Resin and 2 years for hardeners (with the exception of LAM-251-HT).
What chemicals are in Resin:
Composition. Most plant Resin are composed of terpenes. Specific components
are alpha pinene, beta pinene, delta 3 carene, and sabinene, the monocyclic
terpenes limonene and terpinolene, and smaller amounts of the tricyclic
sesquiterpenes, longifolene, caryophyllene, and delta-cadinene.
How many types of Resin are there:
Although there are many different types of Resin in use in the composite industry,
the majority of structural parts are made with three main types, namely polyester,
vinylester and Epoxy.
